Hello My Future Girlfriend
Hello My Future Girlfriend - Trendpedia
Hello My Future Girlfriend is one of the oldest and most popular Internet phenomena. Originating sometime in 1997, it consists of a photograph of a rather geeky-looking young man with a mullet by the name of Michael Blount
The Hello My Future Girlfriend, as far as I know, is probably the first real internet meme (other then the coining of the phrase “spam” to denote unsolicited advertising online.) Others may have been close, (Things like Hampsterdance.com, as an example,) but My Future Girlfriend appears to be inadvertent, which makes it even more memetastic. If the story told on the Trendpedia page is true, then poor Mikeys story is actually quite tragic. While we laughed at his misfortune, he never lived it down.
I remember this one clearly, because I, too, was around the same age as the kid, and also ‘from’ New Mexico. The poor nerdy kid was going out of his way to find a girlfriend, but it was also interesting to me because A. He’s a kid on the internet, adept enough to make a webpage, B. He was looking for a girlfriend, and C. He was on Yahoo Chat, and if I tried I could probably talk to him and tell him I felt his pain, and that I, too, was looking for a future girlfriend.
Skip to the end, Mikey’s all growed up now, and here’s his Myspace.
