Vertical Mapping Redux

I’ve found that this Vertical Mapping thing is kind of radical. I think you should try it.

Taking a walk down (up?) the vertical map, I feel like I’ve been able to mentally clear up some things.

If you’ve never done something like this, resist the urge to deem it corny, and take the time to set it up and fill it out. You don’t have to show anyone, you can even write it down on a paper andrip it up and throw it away, but I’m sure when you see some of the coolness of it, you might take it seriously.

Filling out the lowest level of the map, (the “50,000 ft. – Purpose and Principles” part) was kind of hard at first. This is all your fundamental stuff; your belief systems, the things you live your life for. Once you warm up to the concept and start putting down some of your deep down dealings, and start working up the list, you’ll be able to be more clear with things. I quote the duder:

There is real power in this. It really helps you focus and align your life along a path that gives each action meaning and context.

It’s so true, and again, you won’t see it until you take the time to do it. Dealing in the more shallow pools of actions and projects, you can ask yourself, ‘ok how does this one act help out my life in the grand scheme,’ and might help either motivate you to do it, or pursuede you to do it some other time, or not at all, at the risk of better spending your time.

A side note, a lot of this stuff is easy for me to jot down because of years and years of practice filling out character sheets for role playing games. It’s pretty much the same thing, the character I’m filling out a sheet for I’ve played for 27 years.

I also, for lack of wanting to nit pick through it, don’t think I’ll be posting mine for you all to see. Some of my answers are personal. SOLLY. :3
