Dear Webcomic Creator,

I recognize this is a booming ‘industry,’ and it’s becoming easier then ever to create and host your webcomic. Many of your comics have been brought to my attention by the awesome advertising of ProjectWonderful. For this I am grateful. It has even inspired me to try to scrape together one myself.

However, once I click through to your webcomic, more often then not I am greeted by a stark page, simple navigation controls, and most importantly NO SYNOPSIS OF WHAT THE FUCK YOUR COMIC IS ABOUT. My interest may have been piqued by a graphic or the title, but if I have to try to read more then a page or two of the comic, especially if it’s not story-driven, I am going to leave.

If you can’t bring yourself to do this, then at least HAVE A ROSTER OF CHARACTERS WITH SHORT DESCRIPTIONS. I’ll take a quick peek and see if there are any that I relate to, think are cool looking, or want to have sex with. Odds are if any of the three are true, I’ll be sticking around, or at least visiting every so often.

You have approximately 100 words to inform me as to what the hell or who the hell your webcomic is about. Treat it like a pitch; even if your webcomic is not about anything in particular, TELL ME THAT. There’s nothing wrong with the usual “This is just based on some funny things myself and my friends have done,” it’s just nice to know that starting off.

If you can’t bring yourself to do either, then at least subtitle the comic appropriately. Here’s a good examples of this concept…. (anyone have any more?)
