Clever Phishing Email
I got this email this morning, it made me flinch.
Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
United States Department of the TreasuryDear Taxpayer,
After the last annual calculations of your fiscal
activity we have determined that you are eligible
to receive a tax refund of $184.80.Please submit the tax refund request and allow us
6-9 days in order to process it.A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons.
For example submitting invalid records or applying
after the deadline. To access the form for your tax refund, use the following personalized link:
http://0×7C.0×3.0×3A.[part removed]/www.irs.gov/taxrefund.php
Regards,
Internal Revenue ServiceDocument Reference: (0×7C.0×3.0×3A.0×85).
As you can see it’s a fake link but clearly this was sent at the perfect time, and I’m sure some unsuspecting people are getting owned by this. I didn’t go to the page but it’s not a stretch to think that you’d ‘just have to put in all your personal information like bank account information so we can transfer you your money.’ Really scary. I sent it in to google’s Phishing peeps.

Maybe I’m a little slow, but I thought this was the real thing. The email was questiionable, but the web site looked official. I’m thankful for bloggers speaking the truth. This type of thing makes me leary about conducting business over the internet.
