Steampunk Moves Between Two Worlds

Steampunk hits the New York Times. Still a little frustrating, though, because some of the examples they give are just people wearing Victorian costuming. Vickky clothing and goggles do not a steampunk make.

Also what makes me growl through gritted teeth is that there’s not a SINGLE mention of Cyberpunk, the great grandaddy suffix of all of these movements…

To some, “steampunk” is a catchall term, a concept in search of a visual identity. “To me, it’s essentially the intersection of technology and romance,” said Jake von Slatt, a designer in Boston and the proprietor of the Steampunk Workshop (steampunkworkshop.com), where he exhibits such curiosities as a computer furnished with a brass-frame monitor and vintage typewriter keys.
