USC Lab Creates 3-D Holographic Displays, Brings TIE Fighters to Life

“In an impressive mix of visual sciences and sci-fi, the ICT Graphics Lab at USC has created a low-costvolumetric 3-D display that brings every kid’s hologram dreams closer to reality.”

Basically a mirror spins around faster then hell and it projects images on it in what I believe to be the right perspective at the time you’d be looking at the specific angle.  It looks like it’s projecting literally thousands of frames a second, according to the video here, at the beginning.
