This is an incredible essay/article that’s classic internets. It’s grounded in truth, it links to the article it’s talking about, but it’s an interesting but very realistic take on a strange concept; The literal amount of people you can have in your life and still treat them as individuals. It uses pet monkeys as an example, as the base article was about how the size of a persons brain determines the size of their social limits, or ‘Monkeysphere.’

True or otherwise, it’s an eye-opener. Be it the person that’s pissing you off when you’re driving back from work, or the person dragging ass at the fast food joint with your order, the person ganking and camping your ass in World of Warcraft, all of these people are no-doubt outside of your Monkeysphere. This reminds me of another thing I’ve always had an opinion about, which is the concept of ‘lines,’ referring to ‘crossing lines with someone.’ I think I’ll write that up!

How long until you can’t tell them apart? Or remember their names? At what point, in your mind, do your beloved pets become just a faceless sea of monkey? If you get enough monkeys, you’ll eventually have enough that you no longer even care if one of them dies.
